Johnny Be Gone

As I sit here and read all about Johnny Damon and his defection to the Yankee's, I have to ponder several things.  First off, did Johnny learn a curveball or fastball on his way out of Boston?  If  he didn't, then so what, he just another in the long line of sluggers that George and co. love to collect each winter.  Last time I checked there are no World Series won in December.  Yes the Yankee's dealt a blow to the Sox by signing Damon away from them, but they really did not address any of their own needs.  As I recall last year the Yankee's had long spurts during the season where they struggled to score runs, and had season long struggles pitching.  So how have they fixed their pitching woes...by adding Kyle Farnsworth, when last we checked he was blowing a 5 run lead in the NLDS, and oh by the way he is Flash Gordon's replacement.  Even if the Yankee's wanted to fix their pitching woes, it is too late for them this off-season.  I guess they will start with last years rotation of Randy Johnson, and Mike Mussina, both of whom became social security eligble in the off-season.  If I were a Yankee's fan (and I thank God everyday I am not) I would put that champagne away for awhile.  If the last 4 world series championships have taught us anything, it is that pitching and defense win, not slugging and choking.

Actually we did a lot to improve our pen. We added like 3 arms to help Mo. I wouldnt worry about the Yankees; you should be worrying about your own team. Your management *****, you dont have a shortstop or centerfielder, Manny wants out, and a lot of the great personalities you had on your 2004 team are gone (and I am not talking about Damon). It's not going to take the Yankees 86 years to win our next world series, and where do you get the nerve to put us down for not winning one in five years. Before this drought we have we won 4 out of 5 world series. Your attitude is why I do not like the Red Soxes. You always put down the Yankees when things are not going well instead of dealing with the fact that you are the reason for your problems NOT THE YANKEES!

are u kidding me...you added arms...wow please hook me up with the brownie you just ate...farnsworth and myers...nice additions...not...and you lost tom gordon..hey when was last time you guys won a title...

1. Amber, you rock! I've seen your comments around the blogs, and you're a real Yankees defender. Go Yankees!

2. Amber is right - why is red sox nation ragging on the Yankees when the red sox are disintegrating week by week?

3. "Slugging and choking"??? LOL! Lest you have forgotten, the Yankees took the AL East after an AMAZING bottom of the division comeback; the Yankees went from last place (tied with TB) to first place by the end of the season. If the Yankees "choked", then what are the second place red sox? LOL

4. no cf, no ss, needs another starter, needs middle relief, Manny wants out..

red sox disntegration

yankee fans live in the same world...denial...least you forget...the biggest choke in sport is on you and will always be on you. i would not worry about the sox if were you guys...how bout some pitching...you will need al those sluggers cuz your staff era will hover somewhere around 9 or 10 per game

I've been watching what the Red Sox have been doing (or rather, have not been doing) in the hot stove.

With letting Damon go and not being aggressive enough for Millwood and Glaus, it REALLY seems to me like the Red Sox are not pushing a championship team.

The three teams that have been the most aggressive in the offseason are the Blue Jays, the Dodgers, and the Mets.

The Red Sox seem to be disintegrating.

Well yankee fan something we agree on kind-off...I think by far the jays and mets and dodgers have given thier fans the most to thump their chests about. I do believe the Sox will field a championship level team though..it is late in the hot stove but it ain't over

Well, red sox fan, it's Toronto I'm watching for now, because I think the Blue Jays will give BOTH the Yankees and the Red Sox a difficult time in the AL East.

well the jays owned the sox last year...and i agree they are improved...but i am just not sold on bj ryan or burnett and halladay is a great pitcher but he has not played a full season in awhile

If the Toronto pitchers play at full capacity, then they'll be the monkey on both the Yankees' and Red Sox's back in 2006.

Thanks nakedwookiee I would die defending the Yankees! It's funny how the Red Soxes are putting down all of our middle relief but if they had signed them they would be singing a different tune. The fact of the matter is that the Red Soxes are falling apart. Maybe they would have signed some decent ppl this offseason if there wasnt so much drama going on (Manny, Wells, Damon, Theo, and on). Beckett is the only decent thing you have gotten but he has to prove that he's good. You have to be smoking something real strong if you think they have a championship team, and you must be smoking something if you think that you can talk to anyone about not winning in a while. One championship in 86 years does not give you the right to ***** to me about my team not winning one in 5 years. We still have 81 years until you have the right to do that. So until then have some respect for a team that has won 26 championships.

Hey Amber, check this out..

My spidey sense was tingling about Damon, and I was right!! They signed Damon!

And now.. my spidey sense is tingling about Roger Clemens.

I think he's been quiet so far, because he's waiting for the hot stove to be over to see what teams will be in championship form. I think Clemens' agent will give Cashman a call in January.

hey amber...greatest choke in sports history....still pretty hard to top that...

lol 2004 is the new 1918 for red sox nation

hey amber, you rock!

Hey Red Sox your team choked for 86 years.... nothing can top that! Naked do you have any other tingling senses about players coming to the Yankees? I wonder if the Rocket would be a starter or reliever in New York cause already have tons of starting pitchers.

The spidey sense right now is about

1) the Rocket coming to the Yanks in January and..

2) Andy Phillips starting as 1b (with Giambi as DH, rather than Giambi as 1b and Bernie as DH)

If Clemenes were to come to New York, then I see the pitching thus..

1) Roger Clemens

2) Shawn Chacon

3) Randy Johnson

4) Mike Mussina

5) Chien-Ming Wang

with Pavano, Wright, and Small as long relievers.

Amber, you rock.

Hey thanks! I just write how I feel and I dont care if people like it or not. I dont know about Roger pitching. He's getting old and I dont know if he has the stuff to be a starting pitcher. I would adjust the rotation so that he does not get worn down before the playoffs. But that line up you mentioned would be pretty sweet. I hope that Mike and Randy have a better year and if they do then we will kick butt! What are your thoughts on Wright and Pavano? I hear people saying they should be traded. I dont think it's fair to judge them soley on last season cause they were hurt for most of it.

With Jaret Wright and Carl Pavano, I think they're either gonna be long relievers or be traded for prospects or an experienced 1b. Unless 2006 proves differently, these guys aren't consistent enough to be considered solid starters.

Wang, simply from the fact that he was a rookie last year, has shown that he has tremendous potential as a solid starter. And emotionally, he's ice cold. (Remember that game where Wang fielded a lot of dribbler hits? A record for a pitcher fielding outs or something? His sinker drops quickly and heavily thereby making batters dribble their hits. Give Wang some time, and he'll show that he belongs as a Yankee starter.)

I think Giambi should really be DH in the tradition of Ortiz. So, I think Andy Phillips, a star hitter in time, should be 1b with Giambi as DH.

Red Sox fans have one moment to live about, those 4 fluky games in 2004, great time, but it's over. Us Yankee fans have over a decade of wonderful memories and championships galore. You guys can start talking after you win half of the championships we have, seeing as that'll happen in maybe 150 years. GO YANKS!!

Yeah couldnt agree with you more. One good year does not make up for 86 bad. They should be proud of that year, but it does not give them the right to talk **** to Yankee fans. Im feeling really good about the 2006 season! We are going to tear the American League up!

Yeah couldnt agree with you more. One good year does not make up for 86 bad. They should be proud of that year, but it does not give them the right to talk **** to Yankee fans. Im feeling really good about the 2006 season! We are going to rip the American League up!

As a die hard Red Sox Fan, I will say two good things about the Yankees, Steinbrenner is a great business man. I mean that! Secondly, you just don't get a player, who feels so passionate about the game, the way Jeter does, there should be more like him. With that said, if there were more players, you wouldn't have so many of them running to the Yankees. The Yankees have a great product on the field for their fans, but the latest rendition of this product hasn't produced a Title in 5 years.

Some of these guys were at the top of their game at one time, but that mentality settles when you are on a team with players of the same caliber. Look! at Mike Mussina, he will never be the dominate pitcher he was with Baltimore. ARod defines choking better than any Red Sox team has done in the past. Yes! We have choked, but no different than other teams; however, no team in the history of baseball has come back from a 3-0 deficit. That my friends, is purely pathetic and will go down in history right next to 26 world championships. As much as Arod attempted to cheat, the Yankees couldn't salvage their dignity.

26 championships and the way they lost the playoffs = Pete Rose and his image being tainted because of Gambling. Which one will always be affiliated with Pete. AHHA! Yes my friends, the same way that playoff loss will taint the Yankees. Good Riddens, the curse of Arod has begun

luckyleftie, you keep telling yourself about those 4 fluky games. The manner in which you use the word 'flucky' shows just how much it eats your insides up.

And Amber, one year does make up for 86 years and you know why? Whether you like it or not, we came back with vengeance in historic fashion. The more you sit there and talk about how great the Yankees the more it makes the situation that much sweeter. After all, we not only overcame a 3-0 deficit, we did it against a team you boast so highly about.

You know it eats at you because if it were another team, you Spankee fans would sit there and make up other excuses. We buried you guys along with the 'Fat *******' curse. Now you guys have the curse of 'ARod'. I'm glad you guys have him and keep him. He is your problem and the reason why you guys will be the ones in a 150 years from now still trying to gain that first title 155 years.

jimbo you are awesome...visit my blogs often

I have a question for everyone on here, if you started up a relationship with someone and found out they had cheated on the last person they were with and now they have cheated on you, what would you think? Just think of this scenario that is pertinent to Johnny Damon. I'm pissed and I won't lie! In my eyes, he is a traitor and Yankee fans should watch their back and prepare for dissapointment.

Most teams have holes in their lineups and even if they don't, there aren't any teams out there who can put an allstar at almost every position; however, the Yankees can. The Yankees have a hole, they can fill it with another all star player. (This is what make George a great business man)

The Yankees have a great lineup, but they don't have pitching! Mike Myers wasn't even offered arbitration by the Red Sox because he ******. The Sox let him go, just like we did with Embree and Bellhorn. Did they get you guys anywhere?

If I remember correctly, you guys lost in the first round of the playoffs, so what does it matter you finished in first. One, we had the same recond and two, our 1# guy, schilling, was hurt for most of the season, in addition, to our closer. Imagine you guys lost both Randy and Mo, you would have been competing for last place with the Devil Rays. A team that had the Yankees by the *(*&*s.

Now you Spankee fans are telling the world that next year your pitching staff is going to gain you eligibility for a Number 27?!

You guys keep lying to yourselves the same way you do about the '4 Fluky' games. Jeesh, unrealistic people. I bet you if George was reading this now, he would be ashamed of the fact you call yourself Yankee fans.

I am already over it Jimbo, have been since the day after it happened. Congratulations, 2004 was 2 YEARS AGO. "The Yankees have a great lineup, but they don't have pitching!" We have the Unit, Mike Mussina, Wang, Chacon, Small, Pavano, Wright, oh and something you guys don't know about, a real, legitimate closer. And before you say he blows leads against the sox all the time last year his only 2 blown saves were the first 2 of the year. Mariano is what sets us apart from everyone else, so yeah we've got some pitching, time for your bats to find out!!!

Before I get started, just know one thing, I am not here to argue, I am here to talk baseball. Mo is one, if not, the greatest relief pitchers ever to exist in baseball. He fell on hard times in 2004 and in the beginning of 2005 he was still a little shook up. Once he started becoming the real Mo, I knew we weren't going to beat him and we didn't. Randy pitched a great second half of the season.

If, a big 'IF', Wang, Chacon, and Small, can come back, you guys will have some good pitching. Since all the pressure was on Randy last year, these guys were more relaxed, but now the pressure is going to be redirected at these guys and no telling what will happen. Mussina? It's hard for me to fathom this guy will win more than 15 games this year. He is not solid! I'm not talking out my butt here, when I say that Mussina just isn't as good anymore as he use to be. Pavano and Wright? Don't see it happening, you guys are better with Wang, Chacon, and Small, but there is no telling what will happen with them. My point is this, the pitching staff you mentioned is what you had in 2005, correct? Did that get you pass the first round? No it didn't. So, how can you sit there and say you have pitching. There were no significant improvements made this offseason to bolster the rotation. With the Sox, they have added Beckett and schilling is supposed to be back, along with Foulke. That is significant as far as the Sox pitching concerns. Now their problem is offense.

Now do you see the point I am getting at?

Although I say that, if these guys could really hold their own, why didn't the Yankees make it out of the 1st round of the playoffs. You had the Unit and you had Mo? So I will reiterate the fact the Yankees have hitting and they especially don't have pitching. Nothing that has proven itself as of yet. Your statement, "Mariano is what sets us apart from everone else, so yeah we've got some pitching, time for your bats to find out!!!". I will redirect this statement to a fan of the 'Angels'.

I side note, the 2004 season was a little over a year ago, not 2 years.

I agree that we are better off with Small, Chacon, and Small. But you dont know if Pavano and Wright will have a good year or not because they were hurt for most of the season. Plus for those two and Randy it was their for time in New York so maybe next year will be better. Randy should be more settled in next year because he had a full season under his belt. Wright was hurt for most of the season, but he did get some games in so who knows with him. Pavano is the one I would worry about. Though he was hurt for a good part of the year he never showed me anything when he wasnt hurt. Again maybe he just needed to adjust to New York. I dont really know what more we needed to do this offseason to improve the pitching staff. Yeah we dont know if Small, Chacon, and Wang will be the same as last year but we have nothing to prove that they wont perform the same. Mike and Randy should have better seasons. We did fill some holes in the bullpen. The main focus this off season was to get a centerfielder ( which you can have back if you want) and improve the pen. I think we did those things. We just have to stick with the rotation and see how it goes. If it goes bad well we have the option to try and trade some of them before the deadline.
